New Directory Promotes Canadian Small Businesses

For small business owners looking to connect with other SMEs to build beneficial partnerships, the Canadian Federation of Independent Business (CFIB) has launched a national online directory for SMBs. With assistance from Interac Association, Shopsmallbiz.ca has been designed to help Canadian small business owners connect with consumers and other businesses searching for local deals.

CFIB president Dan Kelly said of the project, "Public opinion polls show that Canadians have enormous respect for small business owners and their contributions to society… Shopsmallbiz.ca is designed to help give Canadians exposure to some of the fantastic products, services and deals offered by small businesses."

The directory came about after last year's "Canada's Small Business Saturday." Over 4,500 small firms participated by posting an online deal for a one-day event in late October, at the end of Small Business Week. Feedback was overwhelmingly strong, and led the CFIB to launch shopsmallbiz.ca as a permanent directory.

The directory is free, and business owners may add and manage multiple businesses from a single account. With promotional photos and YouTube capabilities, the directory is an easy place for business owners to promote their wares, and for customers to find local deals.
